Nilia is a trandional-style 'roguelike' that gives you the chance to enter into a dangerous dungeon, either alone or in a group of two or three adventurers. That's right, unlike most titles of the genre, in Nilia you'll be able to control a maximum of three characters simultaneously, thus being able to create more elaborate strategies and synergies between the skills of each of your heroes.
The controls in Nilia are perfectly adapted for touchscreens, which is especially hard to do in this genre. To move your characters through the dungeon all you have to do is tap on an empty square. Likewise, to attack you only need to tap on an enemy. To cast a spell, it's as simple as tapping on the spell in question and then tapping on the enemy (or ally) you want to cast it on. All the controls are simple and intuitive.
Before starting a new round you'll be able to choose if you want to start out on your adventure alone, or if you prefer to start with two or three heroes. You'll have several classes to choose from: warrior, fire mage, explorer, water mage and other additional classes that you'll have to unlock. Each class, of course, has its own attributes of health, mana, stamina, strength, and so on. And of course, each of one has abilities and spells that make it totally unique.
The story in Nilia will begin with your hero entering the realm of the kobolds. From here you'll have to make your way to the orc dungeons, which are much more dangerous than the little kobolds. After defeating the orcs you'll have to make your way to the glacier and, finally, you'll be able to access the final fortress. It is a long and arduous path, just like in all 'roguelikes', but you'll need to persevere if you want to make it to the end.
Nilia is an excellent 'roguelike', which manages to offer an old school experience while at the same time offering some very interesting new features. The game, of course, features procedural dungeon generation, permanent death, turn-based combat and a high difficulty level. But at the same time, it lets you control several characters simultaneously and has a simple control system which should even be easy enough for players who have no experience in the genre.
